Digital Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS)

NEW SYSTEM ENHANCES RADIOLOGY SERVICES AT SOUTHERN VIRGINIA REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

EMPORIA, VA (March 14, 2011) – As a part of our ongoing efforts to provide our patients with the best possible care, Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center (SVRMC) has transitioned the Radiology Department from conventional film to a completely digital picture archival and communication system (PACS). Faster x-ray exam scheduling, less waiting during the exam and rapid distribution of the results to patients and their physicians are now possible at SVRMC thanks to its recent purchase of innovative image and information management systems from Carestream Health.

“This investment in information management technology will yield a more efficient workflow for medical imaging exams, which will save time and provide added convenience for our patients, physicians and staff,” said Brit Phelps, Chief Executive Office of SVRMC.

A new CARESTREAM RIS (radiology information system) creates a more efficient workflow for scheduling, ordering and management reporting of patient imaging exams. A CARESTREAM PACS provides radiologists with immediate electronic access to medical imaging exams and enables faster and more efficient distribution of radiology reports and images to referring physicians. With this technology, physicians have rapid electronic access to radiology images and reports, which drastically decreases the time to diagnosis the condition and begin treatment for the patient.
